The flag of Ghana is composed of three equal horizontal bands arranged from top to bottom in red, gold, and green. A five-pointed black star is placed at the center of the gold band, creating a strong contrast with the surrounding colors. The simple horizontal layout makes the design easy to recognize at a distance, while the central emblem gives the otherwise regular arrangement a distinct focal point. Its clear division into broad bands also allows the flag to be identified consistently when displayed in a group or alongside other national flags.
Ghana, officially the Republic of Ghana, is a country in Western Africa on the African continent. Its capital is Accra, and English is the language listed for the country. The Ghanaian cedi is its currency. Ghana shares land borders with Burkina Faso to the north, Ivory Coast to the west, and Togo to the east, placing the flag in a regional setting shaped by neighboring states. It is an independent member of the United Nations, providing useful context for its status in international country listings.
