The coat of arms of South Kalimantan Province consists of a shield with a red outer field, a yellow border, and a green center. It also features a gold star, a black-and-white Banjar Bubungan Tinggi traditional house, a diamond, rice and rubber elements, a white ribbon, and the motto “WAJA SAMPAI KAPUTING”.
- Shield and colors: The shield symbolizes vigilance and the ability to defend oneself. Red symbolizes courage, heroism, and the struggle to uphold truth in pursuit of a just and prosperous society.
- Gold star: The star symbolizes belief in the One Almighty God and the belief that nothing is hidden from God.
- Banjar traditional house: The Bubungan Tinggi house symbolizes South Kalimantan’s indigenous cultural wealth. Its black color symbolizes determination and the community’s ability to contribute to national development.
- Diamond: The diamond symbolizes the province’s natural wealth, its high quality and value, and a source of livelihood. Its eight rays symbolize the community’s capacity for learning, progress, and development toward the glory of Indonesia.
- Rice and rubber: The 17 grains of rice and nine tapping lines on the rubber trunk—four on the left and five on the right—represent agricultural and plantation livelihoods. Along with the diamond’s eight rays, their counts form 17-8-1945, referring to Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence.
- Ribbon and motto: The white ribbon symbolizes purity, sincerity, honesty, responsibility, cooperation, and mutual assistance. “WAJA SAMPAI KAPUTING” expresses firmness like steel through the end; the provincial government explains it as working diligently and not stopping before a task is completed.
South Kalimantan Regional Regulation No. 10 of 1963 established the coat of arms on April 9, 1963. Use of the coat of arms of South Kalimantan Province on provincial government civil servants’ official uniforms is regulated by South Kalimantan Governor Regulation No. 030 of 2025.
