Cagliari Calcio is a professional football club based in Cagliari, Italy, on the island of Sardinia. Founded in 1920, the club currently competes in Serie A, Italy’s top level. Its traditional colours are blue and red, reflecting those associated with the city, while its identity is closely connected to Sardinian heritage.

The club has represented Sardinia in national and European football. Its most notable continental campaign came in the 1993–94 UEFA Cup, when it reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual winners Internazionale. This period featured forward Gigi Riva, who later became Italy’s all-time leading scorer.
