The Karangasem Regency emblem consists of a shield bearing “Karangasem” above symbols including Bali-shaped smoke, Mount Agung, a tiered Meru, a lotus, rice and cotton, and binding chains. The elements represent the regency’s connection to Bali, spiritual traditions, and community welfare.
- Name above the emblem: The inscription “Karangasem” appears at the top and identifies the region.
- Bali-shaped smoke: The smoke takes the shape of the island of Bali and represents Karangasem Regency as an inseparable part of Bali Province.
- Mount Agung: The emblem depicts Mount Agung standing in Karangasem. Bali’s highest mountain, it symbolizes steadfastness and grandeur and is a major spiritual focus for Balinese Hindus.
- Eleven-tiered Meru: The Meru represents Besakih Temple, located on Mount Agung’s slope. Its 11 tiers symbolize the highest realm in all directions, expressed as Eka Dasa Dhik Lokapala.
- Lotus: The lotus forms a sacred foundation and symbolizes purity of thought and soul, as well as spiritual grandeur.
- Rice and cotton: These symbols represent prosperity, well-being, food, and clothing. The 22 grains of rice and six cotton leaves refer to the historical identity of the region’s formation.
- Five binding chains: The five chains binding the rice and cotton symbolize Panca Sradha, the five foundations of Hindu belief, and express strong unity.
