The Gianyar Regency emblem consists of a pentagonal form, a star, a chain, rice and cotton, the Pejeng Moon, and cultural figures and structures. Its elements refer to Indonesian national principles and independence, as well as Gianyar’s cultural values and prosperity.
- Pentagonal form and star: The pentagonal form symbolizes Pancasila as the foundation of the Republic of Indonesia. The gold star symbolizes the first principle, belief in the One Almighty God.
- Chain: Its 45 links symbolize unity and refer to Indonesia’s 1945 proclamation of independence.
- Rice and cotton: The 51 grains of rice and seven cotton stalks symbolize prosperity and welfare. Their numbers refer respectively to the 51 villages and seven subdistricts in Gianyar when the emblem was created.
- Pejeng Moon: The Pejeng Moon, a nekara within the pelinggih at Pura Penataran Sasih, symbolizes heroism, grandeur, strength, and prosperity.
- Statues, pelinggih, and Legong dancer: These elements symbolize Gianyar as a center of the arts, its high cultural values, and the creativity of its people.
- Colors: Light yellow represents nobility, compassion, and wisdom; gold, grandeur and glory; brick red, courage and heroic spirit; dark green, peace, fertility, hope, and optimism; white, purity; and black, firmness.
The ribbon at the bottom bears the motto “Dharma Raksata Raksita,” expressing that those who uphold dharma are protected by dharma. Use of the Gianyar Regency emblem is governed by Regional Regulation No. 21/PD/dprd/1972, dated August 10, 1972.
