The Purworejo Regency emblem consists of a shield bearing a five-pointed star, a banyan tree, a bedug drum, a chakra, rice and cotton, and other elements. Purworejo is a regency in Central Java, Indonesia.
- Five-pointed star: It symbolizes belief in the One Almighty God and the people’s faith in the philosophy of Pancasila.
- Banyan tree: It symbolizes protection, shade, and a strong sense of national identity among residents.
- Bedug and 17 pegs: The drum represents a distinctive local feature: the Pendowo drum at the Purworejo Grand Mosque, made from a single large teak tree. Its 17 pegs refer to the date of Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence.
- Chakra with 17 spokes: This weapon of Batara Wisnu in wayang symbolizes maintaining prosperity and eradicating evil.
- Rice and cotton: The 45 grains of rice and eight cotton blossoms refer, together with the 17 pegs and chakra spokes, to 17 August 1945.
- Red-and-white ribbon: It indicates that Purworejo is an inseparable part of the unitary Republic of Indonesia.
- Right and left pillars: They symbolize resolve in upholding truth and justice.
- Lower fabric folds: The folds on the lower right and left symbolize courtesy, refinement, friendliness, and neatness.
The Purworejo Regency emblem was established under a regional regulation in 1968.
