The Cilegon City emblem consists of a yellow-edged shield, with “KOTA CILEGON” in the red field at the top and a yellow ribbon below bearing the motto “AKUR SEDULUR JUJUR ADIL MAKMUR”. Its documented elements refer to the city’s history, religious character, industry, and maritime identity.
- Five-pointed star: The gold star symbolizes Pancasila as the state foundation and belief in the One Almighty God.
- Rice and cotton counts: The 17 cotton blossoms, eight gear teeth, and 45 grains of rice represent 17 August 1945. Rice and cotton also symbolize prosperity, food, and clothing for the community.
- Geger Cilegon Monument and flame: The monument symbolizes the people’s 1888 struggle against colonial rule and solidarity between government and the community. Its nine-tongued flame symbolizes an enduring spirit for building the city.
- Mount Batur and Surosowan Fortress wall: The mountain symbolizes natural wealth and a defensive stronghold. The wall’s 27 stones and four peaks refer to Cilegon’s historical ties to the Banten Sultanate; the numbers also refer to the city’s formation date, April 27.
- Gear: The gear symbolizes Cilegon’s continuing industrial development.
- Anchor and nine waves: These elements symbolize the city’s port and maritime character.
- Pen: The pen symbolizes the importance of education, knowledge, and mastery of technology.
- Colors: Green symbolizes fertility, peace, and religious life; red, courage and struggle; gold, grandeur and noble aspirations; blue, calm and maritime potential; and white, purity and sincerity.
Use of the Cilegon City emblem is regulated by Cilegon City Regional Regulation No. 2 of 2000 on the Regional Emblem. The ribbon’s motto expresses hopes for peace, fellowship, honesty, justice, and prosperity.
