The Tangerang City emblem consists of a green shield containing a star, a gear, a runway with lights, and water ripples, with a ribbon below bearing the motto “BHAKTI KARYA ADHI KERTARAHARJA”. Its elements refer to the city’s religious character, industry, infrastructure, and history.
- Green shield: The shield symbolizes regional community defense, while green represents fertility and prosperity.
- Star: The star symbolizes a religious and dynamic Tangerang community.
- Gear: The gear symbolizes Tangerang as an advancing industrial city. Its 17 teeth refer to Indonesia’s Independence Day, August 17, 1945.
- Runway and lights: These depict Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang and refer to the city’s role as a supporting city for the national capital. Nine runway markers and three runway lights form the number 93, referring to 1993.
- Water ripples: The ripples symbolize the Cisadane River and its benefits, life, and fertility. Their 28 waves refer to the city’s anniversary on February 28, 1993.
- Cotton and rice: Eight cotton blossoms and 45 grains of rice, together with the gear’s 17 teeth, refer to August 17, 1945. Two red circles inside the gear refer to February.
- Other colors: Yellow represents justice, authority, dignity, and grandeur; black, steadfastness and resilience; white, purity and cleanliness; and red, courage and fervent spirit.
The motto means a spirit of service through development work for the nation’s greatness and the people’s prosperity and welfare. The Tangerang City emblem’s design is stated to be based on Regional Regulation No. 2 of 1993.
