The coat of arms of Banten Province consists of a green-based shield bearing the inscription “BANTEN” and a mosque dome, five-pointed star, Menara Masjid Agung Banten, Gapura Kaibon, rice and cotton, a mountain, a one-horned rhinoceros, sea waves, a cogwheel, and runway markings with guide lights.

  • Religious and historical features: The mosque dome symbolizes Banten’s religious culture, and the five-pointed star symbolizes belief in the One Almighty God and divine light. Menara Masjid Agung Banten symbolizes high aspirations for a civil society and the heritage of the Banten Sultanate.
  • Gapura Kaibon: The gate symbolizes Banten as a gateway for civilization, the economy, and international traffic.
  • Rice and cotton: These signify an agrarian region with sufficient clothing and food. The 17 yellow rice stalks and eight white cotton stalks, with four brown calyxes and five blossoms, form the numbers 17-8-45, referring to Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence.
  • Landscape and maritime imagery: The mountain symbolizes natural resources and terrain that includes lowlands and mountains. The rhinoceros symbolizes people who persist in upholding truth and are protected by law; the sea’s 17 white waves symbolize Banten’s maritime character and marine potential.
  • Industry and aviation: The 10-tooth cogwheel symbolizes commitment to development and industry. Two white runway markings and three round yellow guide lights refer to Soekarno-Hatta Airport and symbolize striving toward development goals.
  • Ribbon and motto: The yellow ribbon carries “IMAN TAQWA,” a foundation for development toward an independent, advanced, prosperous, and Darussalam Banten. The ribbon symbolizes unity amid diversity.
