The Salatiga City emblem consists of a shield with an unbounded blue field and several symbolic elements, including a five-pointed star, two adjoining mountains, a brickwork fortification, a Ganesha statue, Sadak Kinang, rice and cotton, and a motto ribbon. The city is in Central Java, Indonesia.
- Shield and blue field: The shield symbolizes territorial defense and resilience, while the blue field symbolizes loyalty.
- Five-pointed star: Colored golden yellow, the star symbolizes the devotion of Salatiga’s people to the One Almighty God.
- Adjoining mountains: The two mountains symbolize Salatiga’s mountainous setting near Mount Merbabu and the unity of the people and government.
- Brickwork fortification: The brick arrangement symbolizes the city’s status as a city municipality. Its four indentations and five defensive bastions or openings symbolize the year 1945, when Indonesia proclaimed independence.
- Ganesha statue: The statue symbolizes Salatiga’s role and function as a city of education.
- Sadak Kinang: This depiction symbolizes the area’s fertility and a source of strength for Salatiga’s people.
- Rice and cotton: These elements symbolize prosperity and the welfare of the people. The 24 rice grains and seven cotton petals represent July 24, Salatiga’s anniversary, referring to the establishment recorded in the Plumpungan Inscription on July 24, 750 CE.
The motto ribbon reads “SRIR ASTU SWASTI PRAJABHYAH,” translated as “May all the people be happy and safe.” The Salatiga City emblem carries this motto, a phrase from the Plumpungan Inscription.
