The Bandung Regency emblem consists of a shield bearing a mountain, a black toothed dam, cinchona leaves, and waves, with the motto “Répêh Rapih Kerta Raharja.” The documented elements connect the design to the regency’s landscape, natural resources, and aspirations for community life.
- Mountain: At the upper right, Mount Tangkuban Parahu appears in green against a golden-yellow background. It symbolizes the area’s mountainous terrain and its renown for fertile soil.
- Dam: A sturdy, toothed black dam runs across the shield. It symbolizes the strong character of the community and its ability to restrain human passions.
- Cinchona leaves: Green cinchona leaves appear in the lower section against a red background. They symbolize natural-resource wealth and fertility, as well as the area’s history as a producer of useful cinchona.
- Water waves: The waves symbolize the regency’s abundant water sources, including flows of the Citarum River and lakes.
- Motto: “Répêh” refers to safe, peaceful community life; “Rapih” to harmonious, orderly, clean, and attractive life; and “Kerta Raharja” to shared prosperity in material and spiritual terms.
The Bandung Regency emblem was established under Regional Regulation No. XV of 1956. Its motto expresses aspirations for a safe, harmonious, orderly, and prosperous community.
