The Karawang Regency emblem consists of a green base, rice and cotton, a floodgate, a Golok Lubuk, and four white channels. Its documented elements refer to agricultural prosperity, irrigation, the struggle for independence, and the regency’s founding date.
- Green base, rice, and cotton: These elements symbolize the prosperity and well-being of the community.
- Floodgate: The floodgate depicts Karawang as an agricultural area that relies on technical irrigation systems.
- Rice and floodgate counts: The 17 grains of rice, eight floodgate leaves, and 45 rice bundles or plants symbolize the date of Indonesia’s proclamation of independence, August 17, 1945, and the spirit of struggle.
- Cotton flowers: The 10 cotton-flower petals indicate the regency’s founding date: the 10th of Maulud in Alif year 1555 of the Javanese calendar, or 10 Rabiul Awal 1043 AH.
- Golok Lubuk: This traditional local weapon symbolizes the determination to defend the nation without surrender.
- Four white channels: These depict the fourth century, when the Tarumanegara Kingdom used the Citarum River as a means of transportation.
The Karawang Regency emblem is regulated by Regional Regulation No. 8 of 1994. Its motto, “Pangkal Perjuangan,” reflects the area’s historical role in the struggle for and defense of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
