The Sabang City emblem consists of five principal elements: two rencong, a depiction of Pulau Weh, wavy lines, a golden-yellow circle, and a green background. Its features refer to the city’s geography and express documented meanings associated with its position and community.
- Two rencong: Positioned on the right and left, these traditional Acehnese weapons symbolize Sabang as a gateway to Indonesia generally and Aceh in particular, open to progress, development, and social openness.
- Map of Pulau Weh: The map represents Sabang’s administrative territory, which encompasses all of Pulau Weh and nearby small islands, including Rubiah, Seulako, Klah, and Rondo.
- Wavy lines: These lines represent the sea around Sabang, whose position amid the ocean also makes it a strategic maritime gateway from two directions: the Strait of Malacca and the Indian Ocean.
- Golden-yellow circle: The circle symbolizes the setting sun and indicates Sabang’s location at the westernmost point of the territory of the Republic of Indonesia.
- Green background: The background symbolizes the fertility of the natural environment, which is continually aspired to for the welfare of the local community.
The Sabang City emblem is documented as based on Sabang City Regional Regulation (PERDA) No. 1 of 1974, which identifies five principal elements.
