The coat of arms of Jambi Province is a shield with a modified pentagonal field, yellow above blue, bearing a mosque, Keris Siginjai, cerana, gong, four lines, and a ribbon motto. The documented meanings include:
- Pentagonal field: The pentagonal base symbolizes the people of Jambi’s spirit and commitment to the philosophy of Pancasila.
- Mosque and foundation: The mosque symbolizes religious belief and devotion. Its six openings, one keris, and foundation stones—five in the upper row and seven in the lower—represent Jambi’s establishment as an autonomous region on January 6, 1957.
- Keris Siginjai: This heirloom keris symbolizes the people’s heroism in resisting colonialism and tyranny, and represents January, the month when Jambi Province was established.
- Cerana: The cerana’s cloth cover is a square with nine divisions. It symbolizes sincerity arising from God’s greatness and guiding the community’s conscience.
- Gong: The gong symbolizes a democratic spirit, expressed in the Jambi Malay saying “Bulat Air Dek Pembuluh, Bulat Kato Dek Mufakat”, which emphasizes deliberation and agreement.
- Four lines: These lines symbolize the people’s historical journey from the era of the Jambi Malay Kingdom to the formation of Jambi Province.
- Ribbon motto: “SEPUCUK JAMBI SEMBILAN LURAH” refers to the unity of nine river-basin areas and Jambi customary territories, from Sialang Belantak Besi to Durian Batakuk Rajo, as well as the Tanjung Jabung area.
The coat of arms of Jambi Province was established under Regional Regulation No. 1 of 1969. Governor of Jambi Regulation No. 7 of 2014 regulates its use on the left sleeve of civil servants’ official uniforms and on employee identification badges.
