Brighton & Hove Albion is a professional football club based in Brighton, England, commonly known as Brighton. Founded in 1901, the club began its professional football history in the Southern League before joining the Football League in 1920. Brighton currently competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.

Known by the nickname “the Seagulls,” the club has traditionally played in blue-and-white striped shirts. Brighton reached the First Division between 1979 and 1983, and in the 2022–23 season recorded its highest top-flight finish by placing sixth and qualifying for the UEFA Europa League. Its longstanding rivalry with Crystal Palace developed during the 1970s.
