Manchester City Football Club, commonly known as Man City or City, is a professional football club based in Manchester, England. The club competes in the Premier League, the top flight of English football, and the UEFA Champions League (UCL). It was founded in 1880 as St. Mark’s (West Gorton), later becoming Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887 before adopting the Manchester City name in 1894.

The club joined the Football League in 1892 and has remained in the Premier League since the 2002–03 season. Manchester City adopted sky blue home shirts in 1894, the first season under its current name. Its history includes a notable period of success in the late 1960s and early 1970s, followed by renewed prominence in English football during the 21st century.
