Bayern Munich is a German professional football club based in Munich, Germany. Its full name is Fußball-Club Bayern München e. V., and it is also commonly known as FC Bayern or Bayern München. Founded in 1900 by eleven players led by Franz John, the club is best known for its men’s football team, which competes in the Bundesliga, Germany’s top football division. Bayern has a long-standing local rivalry with 1860 Munich and a prominent national rivalry with Borussia Dortmund, known as Der Klassiker. The club’s traditional colours are red and white, while its wider sporting organization also includes departments for basketball, handball, chess, gymnastics, bowling, table tennis and senior football.
