The football club was founded on 8 March 1899 and currently competes in the Bundesliga, the highest level of the German football league system. It was one of the league’s founding members when the Bundesliga began and has spent 57 seasons in Germany’s top division.

The club is part of Eintracht Frankfurt e.V., a multi-sport organization based in Frankfurt, Hesse. In addition to professional football, the organization supports more than 50 sports and had almost 14,000 active athletes in 2024.
