Villarreal Club de Fútbol, S.A.D., usually abbreviated to Villarreal CF, is a Spanish professional football club based in Villarreal, Castellón province, eastern Spain. Founded in 1923, the club plays in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

Known as El Submarí Groguet or El Submarino Amarillo, Villarreal has spent much of its history in the lower divisions before establishing itself in Spain’s top flight from 1998. It has also become a regular presence in European competition in the 21st century.
